Hi Ben - I designed the shape based on what I wanted for use when smoking meat. I have been doing it for years, and wanted a moderate length blade, but thinner stock and wider profile so it would work well for chopping brisket and other meats as well as thin for good slicing. It is a great all around Chef knife, but I call it a Barbeque knife as that was what I designed it for. Thanks for looking and for your interest.

James
