Cold steel early tanto

Yes, some of the earliest Tantos were subcontracted to Buck. Buck, especially years ago, didn't care all that much for making fighting knives. That, plus Cold Steel's aggressive marketing campaign (especially the Kevlar vest stab through claim) caused them to part company with each other.

What’s with the dark hardware? Made that way? I just got one of the first recon tanto with the round pommel. Almost looks the same as the tanto. I wonder why they would make them so similar?
