Update: I ended up removing the aftermarket Kwik Thumbstud for the time being because it took away the ability to use the quillion as a very damaging but less-lethal option. It also prevented me from waving the knife open on a pant leg.
I also added a few more washers to the thumbstud for a total of 10. However, I had to invert the stud because it was only threaded in the top half. To soften out the sharp edge of the stud, I put a piece of gaffers tape on it. Now it sticks a good 1/4" past the scale and allows for excellent purchase.
