GA knife laws

Short answer: What laws?
In all seriousness, Georgia's super lenient on knives. You carry anything with a blade shorter than 5" concealed or openly, even if it's a switchblade. And if you get a handgun carry permit, you can carry over 5" thus making all knives legal to you.

Now, if you just go searching around google for the law, you'll get lots of outdated information, because GA did a pretty radical revision of the knife laws in 2012. The official statute is O.C.G.A. § 16-11-126, which I can't link to because of how the official website works, but look that up and you'll see the law in it's entirety.

Besides making the knives laws more lenient, GA also passed a law preempting all local knife laws, meaning counties and cities can't pass any laws restricting knives more than the state.

My wife and I visited the State Capital building. I had my 3" cheapie (S&W Military & Police) on me. Well, I waited outside because it stated "no weapons allowed inside".
I told my wife to go ahead, I'll wait out here I guess.
Moments later a State Trooper comes out and asked me to come in.
"Let me see your knife" he says.
I slide it to him.
"That's not a weapon". 5 inch blade or more is a weapon".
"Come through the detector and you can put your knife back on".

Turns out Georgia is not joke State California. That was pretty cool and I won't forget that State :)

Yes...you can carry 4-5" blades no problem...autos included...in most locations. Some say you may get hassled within the city of Atlanta carrying certain blades, but if you are behaving yourself...you are ok.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal today signed HB 292 that includes the language from Knife Rights’ Georgia Knife Law Reform bill, SB 49. This new law increases the legal carry length of a knife blade in the state from 5 inches to 12 inches (see Section 3 of HB 292).

The new 12-inch length limit was effective immediately upon signing. Having enacted Knife Rights’ signature Knife Law Preemption in Georgia in 2012, any lesser length restrictions in cities and towns are now voided and local jurisdictions cannot enact prohibitions more restrictive than the new state law. Georgia CCW holders do not have any restrictions on carry length.

With Blade Show coming up June 2-4, attendees and exhibitors will have more freedom to carry their larger knives without fear of legal entanglements.

We would like thank our sponsor, Senator Bill Heath, for his tenacity in working to get this done this session. Sen. Heath was also the sponsor of our Knife Law Preemption bill in 2012. We’d also like to express our appreciation to our friends at NRA-ILA for their support.

Efforts to completely eliminate the carry length limit have been stymied due to the manner in which a knife is defined in Georgia law. This will make life much better for knife owners in Georgia without hampering future efforts to completely eliminate the carry length limit at some future opportunity.
