You heard me right.
A cucumber carving contest. tradewater's idea.
Open to all Ka-Bar knife owners.

Rules are simple.
  • Use only Ka-Bar knives to carve as intricate a design as you can. Bonus points for getting some of the bigger knives into the act.
  • No more than four (4) cucumbers total can be used.
  • Design must be G-rated. In other words, you should feel comfortable showing it to your mother, grandmother, priest/pastor, and boss. And to an elementary school class during show and tell.
  • Document the process with pics and/or video.
  • Post your process pics/video and a picture of the final design here.
  • One entry per person.
  • No chatting in this thread. Contest entries only. You can post, "I'm in" and then come back and edit the post to include your entry.
  • Separate chat thread here: http://www.bladeforums.com/threads/cucumber-chat.1491029/
  • Contest will run till end of May.
Ka-Bar higher-ups will judge the results.
First prize will be a NIB Snody Snake Charmer.
Second prize will be a Jarosz folder.

Ideas for designs can be found here: https://www.google.com/search?q=cuc...2t7TAhXl24MKHfKXDN8Q_AUIBigB&biw=1135&bih=680

Not very intricate.. but participation is participation.

I started with two cucumbers and four Beckers (only KABAR knives I have, sorry). Apologies for the bad pics, took them in low light with a relatively crappy cell phone camera.

Decided to carve my KBK number.

Put a few little non-pointy spikes at each end.

Used all four Beckers. The 5, 9, 14, and 15.

Hope this qualifies.

Thanks for the contest, Gunyon!

ETA: A better picture of the finished product.

Don't consider myself to be an artist/carver so really don't think I got anything to contribute here, I destroy things, that's it. No grace, no beauty. Sorry. Poetry maybe, haha. Awesome of BF/Kabar to do this though. You artists get in here!

Thank you KABAR for the contest.

The KABAR knives I want to try.

Using the BK15 to make very thin slices to make a cucumber flower.

I made this chain with BK5 and the little TDI 1478. Wow that little guy was great for cucumber carving.

Not much of a carver, but thought I'd give it a shot. Found a great pic of someone who carved a turtle out of a cucumber. Thought I'd try it. Felt a little like one of those "Nailed it!" memes.

The chosen tools and potential victims.

The big chop

Coring out the shell

Trying to figure out the head as the carnage grows

My assistant really likes cucumbers

Glad KA-BAR makes smaller blades as well

The final carnage

Viola!

Patience pays off

Nailed it!

Consensus between myself and OFFICIAL KA-BAR is that B. Mauser took this one.
He involved several knives, did four different carvings, including a cool flower, utilized fire, and he did not take any pictures of shaved body hair.

Second place goes to KingMC because he engineered something with interlocking pieces, and it held up a Parangatang.

Congrats to the winners, and thanks to all our contestants. B. Mauser and KingMC, shoot me your mailing addresses.

Yes! Thats great! This was a fun contest.

Thank you KABAR, OKB and Guyon.

I cant wait to check out some S35vn by KABAR!
