Here's little comparison pic before / after. Made this for sale and my friend wanted it.

I think I might shorten my frontier hawk like some of you have. I did so to the above hawk and I liked it. Would fit inside my packback without the shaft peeking out.
I want to do this!
 
I bought a cold steel pipe hawk because of this thread, and its great! I use it while working on my trap line, its reliable and looks good too (after I worked on it a while...)! You cant beat that. I use it to cut, carve and hammer stakes, to limb saplings and clear brush for placing traps, and many other uses. And occasional throwing.. lol Thanks to all who inspired me to go through with the work, youve saved me a lot of trouble since I used to carry a real axe and it was much less convenient. It was easy to set down and lose, took up one of my hands, was heavy and got caught in brush and was just more than I needed.
