Curious about your statement. I heavily considered the Power-Pliers as myh large EDC before I decided to go with the LM Crunch instead. I'd never held the SOG, but was going by what I had read on the Web. I'm happy with the Crunch, except that deployment is 2 handed. But it's a trade-off I'm willing to make.

How didn't the Power-Pliers meet your expectations?

Leatherman:
Juice kf4
Micra

Victorinox:
Cybertool 34
Huntsman
Classic

And lots of knock offs

Victorinox Explorer and Fireman.
Gerber Compact Sport.
Leatherman Wave and Squirt S4.

Lee is doing great. I have to harass him about being a liberal though. :D

The new Leatherman lineup is due out this coming fall I believe. I wish it were sooner.

Glad to hear that Lee is doing well. Tell him that I said hello and that I still see the gray. He'll know what you mean. I am also looking forward to the new LM line. I wonder when they'll begin their publicity campaign?

RobbW,
The Power Pliers did'nt work well for me for several reasons:

None of the tools lock.
The tools all clump together when you try selecting just one.
The bull-nose pliers were not as useful as I thought they would be.
The gears dug in to my hand when using some of the tools.
The handle edges dug in to my hand when using the pliers.
The wood-saw is too thick, not flexible enough, too short, and the teeth are too large to saw very well.
And the awl is facing the wrong direction so that it folds when using the awl's edge.

Not to bash SOG, but I simply cannot recommend the Power Pliers.
I don't have any experience with their other tools.

Happy hunting,
Allen.

Thanks for the reply, allen. I've wanted the PowerPliers since I first learned about them a decade or so ago. Just never got around to purchasing them. I recently decided to go with the LM Crunch instead and am now glad I did, after hearing your report.

The Cruch has to be opened with two hands, and the locking screw needs to be removed to access the 1/4" bit-drive hole, but the tools all lock easily and securely in place, and a bit-drive adapter is not needed to use drivers.

Thanks again.
RobbW

Let me see...
Leatherman Juice S2 (EDC)
Leatherman Juice KF4 (Shoulder bag)
Leatherman Wave (possibles bag in trunk of car)
Leatherman Supertool and adapter (Tool box)
Vic SAK Pioneer Harvester (EDC: Gives me an awl & saw)
Vic SAK Rucksack (Possibles bag in trunk of car)
Vic SAK Camper
Vic SAK Signature II (EDC for the pen, red LED and nail file)
Vic SAK One-Handed Trekker (Think that's what they call it now)

I also have a cheap Winchester multi-tool that lives in my trunk. Its there for doing messy &/or abusive jobs that don't require a better tool. I have a cheap SAK ripoff in my toolbox for the same reason. Works great for mixing epoxy, opening cans of stain and scraping gunk off things.

Leo
