"Old Knives"

I'll throw this up here too, just because I'm glad BF is back up. 1920-40s Graeff & Schmidt Smooth Bone Jack Knife That I rescued from an abusive house painter. I almost junked it but something made me clean it up, I'm glad I did. :)

What a treasure, Ted. That one is certainly worth some work.

I especially like the rounded bone. Similar to this Queen from around the same era.
I know a lot of folks like a thinner pocket carry, but I'd love it if GEC made a knife in this kind of thick rounded bone.

Nice EE Jack r8shell, I love the warmth in the color of old pocket worn bone. You can't create that with new, it takes decades to take on that patina.

That one's nice and has full blades. :)

Thanks. Sadly, that one's not mine. :( I borrowed it from a friend to take some pictures for the April Fools thread. I was hoping he might sell or trade it, but no. I don't blame him, I'd hang on to a knife like that, too. :D

Here's an old Schrade Walden done in piano key ivory, I took 2 pieces applied a thin set of 5 minute epoxy and clamped for an hour, sanded to fit, I actually over sanded by the bolsters. It was my first attempt so I'm gonna do another one and do it as a WIP

Here's a few more shots, notice it's a splitback and the half stops on the smaller blades lie flush open, half open or closed. Check out the sick swedge with the crazy short long pull nail nick.

Ted, that's a nice job of piano key recycling.

Wow, luger, those are all amazing!

@Lloyd!!!!
Wow, those Peachseeds - that Keen Kutter ( Schrade Built surely? ) is gob Smacking....My friend...you MUST bring these to the Rendezvous so we can C&F these - I will handle the knife for Paul as he will try to slip these in his pocket.

That Cell DE looks to be a absolute gorgeous Knife- you have to show us more of these knives my friend and stop doing this to us!:D

Miller Bros NEVER fails to please me- and here is another example of just a pure Quality Knife - Swedge Heaven my friend!

Thanks Rachel, Duncan, Paul and Mike for your nice comments--much appreciated! I have some more OKCA finds I will post when I get a chance. It is hard to post photos on this new forum software--at least it is for me so faro_O. Lloyd

Lloyd, very nice additions to your collection, you always get high quality high condition knives, love to see them.

The new software takes a little getting used too but its actually easier and posts higher quality images than before. I save the images from iPhoto to my desktop then just use the "Upload a File" button right here at the bottom right where we are posting and a box pops up allowing you to select which photos to post, may have to resize slightly smaller to get it to post but it's pretty generous as far as size. Another advantage is no longer need to use a third party hosting service like PhotobucketIMG_5535.jpgIMG_6189.jpg

Lloyd, beautiful knives, each and every one of those. I especially like the Hammer Brand lockback English jack. That Keen Kutter cattle knife is pretty special as well, it would be great if you could post that one in the Keen Kutter thread, as every time a new knife is posted to that thread, it shakes loose a few more. As you stated, a later knife, likely made sometime after 1942.
Augie, thanks for the explanation of the new method to post pics and some very nice example photos posted as well. Hopefully, this means there will be no more photos vanishing from the site due to people deleting them from their photo hosting accounts?
Dan

I didn't see all of those in Oregon, Lloyd! Great scoop of outstanding knives! There are always great knives at that Oregon Show!

Thanks John, Dan and Charlie!

John thanks for the photo posting help. Beautiful photo and knives you posted. I did try to load the photos directly from my desktop but they apparently were to large. So I had to resize them via Photobucket which is a pain. I don't know how to make my photos smaller without using the photo hosting service? With the other knife forum I never have any problem and load photos from my desktop directly without using Photobucket. In fact these same photos loaded fine on the other forum without any issue. Everyone of the photos using the "upload a file" function below here on BF said photo to large.

Good idea Dan I will post my KK photo above to the the KK thread as you suggest. I hope you can make it to the show next year Dan! We missed you this year and your expertise.

Charlie you are absolutely right! The OKCA show is like a big museum of knives (vintage folders) that you can actually BUY. Not cheap in high grade near mint condition but I am willing to pay a premium to handle such knives in person and knives I am not likely to see perhaps ever again. However, there are knives for any budget. I got a couple of near mint unsharpened examples but the rest are used in very good to high excellent condition. It is just pure visual sensory overload there are so many collectible knives under one roof to see and evaluate. But that is half the fun:) I did pace myself better this year and bought knives on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I bought from eight different sellers this year. I am very pleased with what I found!

Thanks again gentlemen, Lloyd

Compared to the treasures on this page I'm almost shy to post my newest Old Knife find, but I think it's neat, and it's older than I am. :D

Hammer Brand (1945-1955) Shell construction, and I think it may have originally had a shield crimped on in the two little holes on the mark side.
