Hi Guys -

Just a couple pictures - I took out the TM today while I cleaned up along the field, pulling out old logs etc.

After that I tried out a little feather stick making and then made a little fire just to do it -

I took some pictures - it has been VERY wet here over the past few weeks, so everything was soaked. I found a wrist-sized piece of choke cherry and carved at it until I got to the dry wood, made some curls and then piled some of the wispy high grass over it and then took a shot with a misch-metal stick -

I did get flame, and then put a leaf on it to burn - then put it out.

The TM has a great handle, and with gloves on it is a snap to carve wet or dry wood, at least the choke cherry I had to play with today.

A little soapy water in the sink and it is looking good as new - those fire-stick burns washed right off.

Thanks for the pics Andy. Looking forward to getting mine soon.

Good to see the TM out and about.

It throws sparks like a champion!

In fact, I even broke one fire-stick with it, and went to a larger diameter stick to get the fire going.

The handle is great - large and feels good, and provides a lot of leverage to the blade. Just what I was wanting!

More to come for sure.

Nice to see you got it dirty Andy.

BTW, you're supposed to baton the wood to get to the dry innards.;)

just received my twig mangler today. hope it's ok to just add to this thread andy.

my initial impressions were....
1) wow! it really looks great. nice job john.
2) fit and finish is superb.
3) it's bigger than i expected. now, i knew the measurements: 4.5" blade and handle (i had john do a shorter handle). it's not that, though i have been carrying smaller blades lately. it's that the handle is definitely a full grip. i.e. the height of the handle is a bit taller than i usually prefer.

now, with that said, i immediately hit it on a ceramic rod and then stropped on a fine stone (about 10 times each). and then i found a twig to mangle. :D

and, i really like how this one handles. it cuts great and seems real "natural" to use....not sure how to describe it. i'm looking forward to using it more.

thanks John. really like this one.

I'll be starting a basic TM next, then the one for Rockywolf, which looks like it will be the last one.

i just had to take a bit of time tonight to play. i first brought the TM out to the shop and made 'er mine. i like a nice smooth handle, so i took off the squared edges of the handle. i also rounded the spine a bit off the first couple inches of the blade.

boy, it felt good after that. i like it even better now. so yeah, i needed to cut something.

Looks great, Todd!

Did you carve that stick with your TM ? How did you like it for, well, Twig Manglin'?

why yes sir, i did. thought the grind on it worked well. had a bit of a hot spot in the crotch of my thumb, but i can work on that. thought it carved well. it made quick work of that there twig. ;)

now that i have tried it, there are a couple things i would change. but overall, i really like the knife. and it is certainly the nicest looking JK i have owned (IMO). interested in cutting some flesh with it to see how it performs there, but i expect it will work well.

I really like the tan and od canvas handle on the Twig Mangler. I've not really seen a use of micarta pins that I thought looked great either, but TPVT I like them on your knife!

phew, nice looking knife, I like the small "choil" type feature, must make sharpening it to the end a little easier

Excellent - thanks Todd!

Mine arrived this week and it's a beautiful thing. I sanded the handle a bit to round it and stropped it a few times. Came sharp and the leather sheath is great. Pics soon. Apologies for hijacking the thread!
