Question/concern about the lock release button

I know Bob's not in yet, but I'll say it anyways while I'm here.

What is the lock release made out of? It seems to be scratching pretty easily. I'm concerned that the button will wear out in no time.

The slide bar is a Glass Filled Zytel I belive 60%. Where is it wearing? I need more imput. One of the test knives sits on the TV here and I open and close it while watching TV and when I think about it. I would imagine it has 7,000 - 10,000 openings and still going strong. I took it apart and it shows some wear but not even close to failure.
