Some beautiful Art here. What would a novice need to shape, polish and attach scales to a handle. I was at a rock show awhile back and picked up a couple tiger's eye slabs that are begging to be mated to a piece of steel.
 
No, This is the right place. We have been out for a couple of days....

The basic equipment required is fairly extensive and expensive too. The basics are far too complex to answer in a thread on this site. I am a moderator on a lapidary site which has a tutorial I wrote on doing stone scales and a section related specifically to knives.
