The Survive! Never Say Die! Chat Thread

I wish I could justify having pretty knives, but it bugs the hell out of me.
That D3v FK you helped me get looks almost brand new still!

^^^ I've gotta admit that used knives show more character as opposed to unused ones and safe queens. Those FK and EDC buggers with the tumbled finish still end up looking like-new with lighter cutting tasks in the same way I was quite fond of the older GSOs with tumbled blades.

Same here. The stonewash hides way better.
I've gone through my latest knife purge and I'll be getting rid of 6 knives soon because I can't stand having unused stuff sitting around.
I wish I could be a collector!

I don't know if you saw photos of the older 3V I traded a D2 EDC for or not, but that one is among the very rare older 3Vs in satin finish which is so fine, I think I will be ushering her to her cutting, slashing and general destruction prowess by introducing her to a ripe and plump tomato :D

That's one of those that I'd baby.
Cutting a tomato would be "hard use"!!

I don't know what Nathan had in mind back in the day when he used to put soooo much work in getting a satin finish ready all for a measly and paltry amount of $215 but this baby is begging to get roughed up on those 4-per-pack organic green tomatoes from Trader Joe's for $3.95 per pack :D

^^^ that's correct plus sellers also can't see who is viewing their sales thread which is not as useful as it was before in terms of gauging the potential market. That said, if you ever sit around again cruising the site while in your magic underwear, everyone can peek at your peewee!

Silver, checking in!

I had followed the progress of the site changing over on Friday, but then the weekend and work and switching phones got pretty hectic. Looks like I have some learning to do. It's good to see you guys over here on the other side of the big switch :D

EDIT: Trying to figure out how to quote you, HK!

I got quotes figured out, but for some reason keep forgetting to use them. Even though it is in the same place, I don't seem to see the option as readily. Maybe I just need more tea, or a swap to coffee.

Yeah this is taking some time to get used to, but I did exactly what HK said with the watched threads and even added Bladeforums as a homepage through Safari so now I basically have it as an app.
I was hoping that Tapatalk would be an option, but Spark posted something about all of the spam it causes so I deleted that damn app.

That explains a lot. I tend to do quick check-ins on here when I'm at home, through tapatalk. I was blaming our internet provider for it not working lately.

Thanks Riz for the help to get signed back in! All I could do was lurk and it's been driving me nuts not able to get on when I actually got time away from the cry babies at work!

Now just to figure out my avatar and such, then cruise the forum a bit for a test drive.

Tex! Glad you got things figured out. I'm still trying to get comfortable. Some things are easier and some I need to get used to. Overall things seem easier on my phone than the old site.

One thing I wish I could see was who the last person to post in a thread is. I'm usually interested to hear from certain people, but when I see Casino posting I usually just pass right by that nonsense ;):rolleyes:o_O

Also, the new smilies are pretty cool.

The new smilies are nice  , but the thumbs up/down ones don't show up very well if you are using the optional dark theme.

Glad you are back Tex!!!

Silver, I agree, many times I would check on a thread based on the last poster.

A couple times now I've clicked on a post only to find I was the last person to respond!

On a totally different note, has anyone ever used a knife made out of any metal other than steel?

I had a Mad Dog ceramic for several years. I originally bought it as a dive knife due to the fact it is 100% non-corrosive. Found it wasn't for me and the collector value kept going up and up so I sold it. I can't say I miss it.

I have an all titanium friction folder. Edge has a layer of carbide. It's very light, and kinda hard to sharpen correctly. It makes it into the pocket rotation every now and then.
