I think that he decided against a latch on this first batch because most of the latches stretch over time and I think Mike wanted to find a solution to that before making a bali with one. Pretty sure he wants to add a latch to the design later on, but it must be good enough to be called Snody before that happens. I will ask Mike again to make sure, but that is my memory on the subject.
The spring latches on the old BM 4x's are greatly loved amongst flippers and their the only one's I care for.
After talking more with Mike and reading more and the help you guys have given, I have learned quite a bit more about bali's. Mike says he already has an idea for the latch and eventually it will come. In fact it looks like this first run of the HighRoller might be the only ones made Ninja style, and any future models will have a latch. But anything can happen between now and then, all I know is that Mike is still very excited about making Bali's so we should see him putting lots of effort into them in the near and long term.
