Recommendation? Kershaw Shallot hinge screw tightness with no AO spring

Thanks that answers my questions perfectly :). Did likewise with my leek just now. Much easier to clean these to just take them apart, past couple years I had been dripping oil into the leek and all that did was gum it up. Soap and water on all component parts, towel dry, reassembly with...

Recommendation? Kershaw Shallot hinge screw tightness with no AO spring

I removed the spring from a Kershaw Shallot, I didn't like having an AO knife. I applied superlube to the assembly and I reassembled the knife so that it still had the tension bar's sheetmetal liner guide piece but I left the tension spring out. Blue loctite was applied to all the torx screws...

Strip black coating off 1600CKT Leek Tactical's Blade

So cannot use aircraft remover? I have stripped my Becker and Ontario knives with this method. Yes the 1660CKT: Kershaw Leek Tactical Spring Assisted Knife (3" Black Plain) 1660CKT I usually don't like "tactical" stuff but the price was too good to resist. I'd like to de-tactical it LOL...

Strip black coating off 1600CKT Leek Tactical's Blade

Ordered a Leek Tactical off ebay for about half price. I am not a fan of black colored knives. Can the coating on the blade itself be stripped? I wouldn't strip the handle.

    First time handle making Questions

Yep. Hidden tang. Its a fairly large stick tang. Two holes already, one hole is slightly smaller than the other. The small hole was the lanyard on the stock handle.. I have two size brass rod that fit it. Are you suggesting I cut my block of wood in half down the center with the tang to be...

    First time handle making Questions

I have an Ontario SP-2 Airforce knife that I removed the rubber handle from. I purchased a brass guard that fits very closely to the tang (required some filing before I hammered it on and then jbwelded) and a 2x2x6" block of bocote wood that I plan to use as my handle material. I also have two...

Coating under the scales of a bare carbon blade?

My solution ended up being painting several coats of superglue with a brush and then sanding it up to 2500 grit for a fairly smooth finish. It seems to work so far. I guess if it starts getting rusty under there I should consider having this thing sent off to be stripped and finished or something.

Coating under the scales of a bare carbon blade?

Any tips on preventing rust under removalable scales on a carbon steel knife? The knife in question is a Becker BK2 with stripped finish. I tried automotive wheel clearcoat but it doesn't seem durable enough, it wore where the edges of the scale contact it (around the screw holes). Right now...

first try at a knife mod and I went at my BK17

I tried a few different things and liked the apple cider vinegar look. The excess black coating will rub off quickly but underneath is pretty resilient.

    Customized CRKT First Strike

I was bored and really hated this knife because the "rayskin" wrap looked junky, the knife was very dull with the stock grind, and I didn't like how the grind terminated into the wrap without a choil. I ground down the secondary bevel and then put a razor sharp edge on it with the sharp maker...

    Forced Patina BK2

Alright so I've used the knife a decent amount now and I figured I'd share what I've done with it up till now. I evened out the patina to a uniform state by dipping it repeatedly in boiling apple cider vinegar and then sanding. A thumb divot was added with a dremel. The grips have been...
