Could these Chinese knives really be that good?

My entire collection consists of Chinese budget knives from SRM and Enlan to Harnds, CH and TwoSun (along with one other *ahem* company) and I agree with this big time. It's all about marketing. Look at how CRKT spins a story for every single model that leaves the factory. Even a wooden knife...

One Hand Open And Close Slip Joint

SanRenMu used to make an entire line of slipjoint flippers that use two ball bearing detents to hold the blade in place in both the open and close positions. And in 12c27 steel too, which was very uncommon for Chinese value knives. It made closing the blade slightly more dangerous though; the...

A new Sanrenmu 9011 that was released in mid 2018: Looks somewhat like my Real Steel E771, but with a wider, recurved blade.

Your best knife pic of the week!

A new Sanrenmu 9011 in my favourite steel: 12c27.

Today's theme: Chinese supremacy. Softened the light by sticking kite paper over the ceiling lamps.

    Everyone's latest acquisitions!

Keeping the steel real with Chinese supremacy. Not my best pictures because I misplaced my tripod (a mandatory requirement for shaky hands) and unintentionally underexposed most of them to -1/3 (never trust the live view).

Blown Away By This $30 knife

All vendors of budget folders seem to enjoy using them. Schrade especially. I don't like it. But I don't dislike it either. Still less attention-grabbing than those black-coated blades.

I believe the Canadian import ban only applies to filppers and AOs. It should still be fine to import normal folding knives with thumbstud/thumbhole-only opening methods. And backlocks. Which means that Spyderco and Buck are still open options for your knife cravings. I notice that Kershaw is...

    CRKT M21 02G

Have both the M16 and the M21, love both. And 8cr13mov is the best of entry level steels available. Dead easy to sharpen and touchup to a scary sharp edge. And holds it better than 12c27 or 420hc.

EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

Gerber Airlift. 5cr15mov. Reprofilled to 17dps. Cuts like a monster. Loving it, but hate the gold-coloured plating over the blade.

    Just Bought a 8cr13mov Knife - What's your take?

8cr13mov is tougher than, and holds its edge longer than AUS-8. By your logic Aus belongs to the realm of gas station mall ninja knives then.

    Just Bought a 8cr13mov Knife - What's your take?

8cr13MoV is imho the undisputed top dog of entry-level knife steels. Virtually my entire collection of knives (which I estimate to be currently > 200) use them and they have been awesome. In fact, I prefer them to the so-called higher end steels like 440C and D2. D2 especially gets a very bad...

    Why the hate for serrations?

The only serrations I consider to be done 'correctly' are those on the large Victorinoxes. Anything else is just nonsense IMO.

New knives for the new year.

A H5 Gerfalcon and an E775 from Real Steel. I'm a bit disappointed to see Real Steel move up from budget and entry-level knives to mid-range and premium. Even those they are still much more affordable than US knives, I find that Chinese companies' pricing do not scale proportionately and Real...
