That knife is cool and all but that horn kind of steals the show - very cool.

That is an interesting observation and it immediately made me think about the delrin that is on an old Camillus Barlow that I used to have. It looks a lot like Copperhead Sawcut - which also could be another reason why it's a desirable color. Really old pics I have of it.

I honestly never thought Hemlock would take off like it did - I was prepared to be stubbornly entrenched with a small minority. I think the lighter tones feel safer for a lot of folks and one can't begrudge them that. I will usually fall on the side of richer, darker tones most of the time so...

Agreed. I allowed myself to get a bit wound up in the previous thread - it isn't healthy. The "anything-but-(insert blank)" can be very off-putting - you just have to let it roll off, we're an opinionated bunch.

It's a fascinating dilemma - are we seeing only what we want to see? This does not look red to me - how about you all? Top pic is mine, bottom one is from a vendor that I do not recall.

This 47 in Hemlock Green is the only knife that I have mistook for Blood Red in the past. That said, I wish that I could get more examples posted here because I suspect that these 47s are a bit of an outlier. None of the 66s that I have seen are that red. Well, to be fair... (queue...

I like it but I think this is what the anti-Hemlock folks are worried about - this very much looks like a dark red knife. In fact, it looks a lot like Black Cherry when it doesn't look so black. The challenge with Hemlock dye is that it is a color that isn't all that simple, there is a lot of...

I wish GEC's site was a bit more comprehensive with regards to listing patterns and their variants (with accompanying pictures) but it would be a rather exhaustive effort and may or may not be worth the trouble in the end. That said, I did pull a few examples of the different "brown" sawcut...

I'm glad I wasn't the only one - and I am not even that old (I don't think, anyway).

I am going to bring these two posts to the front because I think it an important exercise. Having an idea of how Hemlock might be rendered in sawcut fashion can be obtained by seeing how other dyes have been treated in jigged as well as sawcut form. Speculation, yes, but educated speculation...

What color do you think Hemlock Green actually is? Asking for science. Think "is the dress blue or is it gold". The biggest challenge for us folks who are backing Hemlock is the fact that we have no sawcut examples to draw our conclusions from. We might think it would look terrific but we...

I feel like we are stuck in one of those viral "is the dress blue or is it gold" test situations.

I think any option would look stellar - the 86 provides a bold canvas. The only choice that I am really not crazy about is the Antique Yellow. It is arguably one of GEC's most used dyes and I have (and have had) way too many knives in that particular color.

My objectivity is certainly in question due to my obvious preference for red (in most cases) - however, I will try and assuage any concerns (no promises that I'll be effective). The Blood Red 66 that I displayed above is a knife that I got in a trade for my 66 in Hemlock Green. I've handled...

    GEC 86 size reference (Help!)

It is difficult to judge, to be honest, especially since I do not have a scale that I can adequately compare with. That said, the single blade barehead 86s that I have are considerably lighter than the 2-blade versions with end caps. The 2019 Forum 86 is the lightest of the bunch with its wood...

2021 GEC 83 Tascosa Lock Back

I've read enough of the concerns in the past with regards to GEC's lockbacks to come to the conclusion that it simply is not a specialty of theirs. I think the last time they did a lockback was the last run of 99s and the same concerns were brought then as well. I don't think there is an...
