Case mini trapper vs GEC 42

@TAK65 No problem. Finding an 83 could be tough. Even if they made a new run right now it would be tough. If a small high quality lockback is on your mind take a look at Moki's offerings.

Case mini trapper vs GEC 42

A 72 may fit in a big watch pocket, no chance a 42 will but the real knife you want for watch pocket carry is the 83. I'll post up pics after breakfast.

    GEC's jigging

It seems they only used this pattern of jigging once and it's a shame.

    Lets talk GEC!

Second from the bottom is the closest. Except it's all one piece. There is no separate little bit on the butt. Not all GEC lockbacks are built like the 72s though. They experimented a bit.

If you could only carry one.

A lockback trapper. Particularly the 72 size. It's really all the folder I need.

Does anyone make a traditional style - in an auto?

I want a Press Button Knife Co reproduction in a very bad way. Even if I could find an affordable original I'd be too tempted to carry it..

    Lets talk GEC!

Just caught up on this thread. To tack on to what Leslie Tomville said, I have to agree that there some wild misconceptions about the folks at GEC. Once upon a time in an empty barroom in Titusville, a strange twist of fate placed Bill Howard and I at a table with a pitcher of beer between us...

    Vest pocket carry ?

Vests are fairly popular where I live. I pretty much live in a sherpa lined Carhartt vest for three seasons, you see plenty of those up here in rural OH. It'll keep you warm enough outside but you don't have to take it off indoors. Extra pockets are a huge plus of course. I've been known to clip...

    Five Best Looking

Will, that 83 is one of the finest examples of GEC's shielded stag I've seen. This thread is driving me nuts. I keep going back and forth on my top five. I've done one photo shoot already for a post but I believe I'll scrap it. It's so hard to choose just five.

    What's so great about Barlows?

A I said fashionable. I am aware of how old the pattern is. Many traditional patterns are old and many are popular. Barlows however are fashionable. Barlows are so fashionable that they changed the lexicon. Any straight jack is a Barlow to a good many folks now, before long anything vaguely...

    What's so great about Barlows?

Yeah I'm right there with you. I keep trying them and I keep letting them go. I really don't like the way the long straight bolster feels in hand either. I think they became fashionable because they're of particular interest to a couple of upstanding porch members.
