It can shave, but not slice a tomato????

I don't have any problems cutting a tomato with a polished edge at all if sharpened properly, with a polished edge and cutting a tomato you need to slide the knife ahead a bit first to get the skin to cut then the knife will slide right on threw it. I often sharpen mine as high as 8k with a...

What is the exact problem that you are having, are the bevel's uneven or is the stone missing a certain area of the bevel.

Last stone grit vs strop starting grit

That's what I was trying to say that I like to use lower grit diamonds or CBN first then use the G8 stone as my finishing stone, when I said that the G8 stone would be good for stones that have a lot of carbide's I should have said but not vanadium carbides because I know better then that. I...

Last stone grit vs strop starting grit

I also have a Venev 2000 grit stone and I still prefer the Suehiro G8 stone which is an 8K stone, the G8 stone is made from silicon carbide but it finish's just like an aluminum oxide stone so it will cut high carbide steels good. I don't worry about steels that have vanadium carbides in them or...

Last stone grit vs strop starting grit

They change the resin on the Venev 400 800 and 1200 grit stones so they aren't as abrasive and don't scratch the edge up that much at all. If you want a really good finishing stone look at a Suehiro G8 stone that is what I use after the Venev 1200 grit and there's really no need to strop after...

    Recommendation? Elmax sharpening

@JBC6650 If you do go with a better system I would go with diamond stones for doing the heavy lifting and using Chosera stones from 1 to 5K or even 8K and if you want to go high as 8K get a Suehiro G8 stone from Gritomatic they are best 8K stone on the market. Myself personally I like using the...

    Gritty Benchmade Free M4

I agree with sickpuppy1 and I would also try tightening the pivot a bit and work the blade back and forth hand a bunch of times to help break in the washers,I have done this before on a few knives to get them loose up and smooth out that had crappy actions from the factory.

    Recommendation? Elmax sharpening

To be honest I would look into getting a better system then a Lansky if you can afford it,I had one and they are painfully slow when compared to a system that use's 6 inch long edge pro format stones. I would look into a Hapstone that use's clamp's you can pick new ones up fairly cheap and they...

    Recommendation? Elmax sharpening

I had a ZT0566 with an Elmax blade and you could get it extremely sharp going up to a 20K Suehiro stone without stropping it,it would get so sharp it would cut arm hairs off without even putting the blade against your skin. I never tried it toothy to see if it liked it or not, what do you have...

3rd party Omega springs -any good?

You said you don't like Spyderco pocket clip's in another post and I was wondering is that,Spyderco clips fit very tight whether you are wearing blue jeans or pants that thin,I have never had 1one problem with their clip's but every Benchmade I have ever gotten feels weak.

3rd party Omega springs -any good?

What is it that you don't like about Spyderco's pocket clip's,I don't know why but every Benchmade knife I own the clip is really weak and doesn't hold very well at all,I also own more Benchmades then the 4 I mentioned above.

3rd party Omega springs -any good?

It wouldn't surprise me if their spring's aren't made in house because I know they claim to make all of their hardware in house such as bolt's and screws. They have cnc wire benders that make short work out those kinds of tasks's and I'm sure for Benchmade if they could keep it in house it...

3rd party Omega springs -any good?

I really like my Benchmade knives but I change the stock pocket clip for an aftermarket or have a sheath made,Benchmade has about the worst pocket clips out of any company from what I have found. There pocket clips are so weak and and do not hold well at all,I got 2 Contego's in M390 and 2...

Recommendation? Sharpening stones or sharpening systems?

If you want a guided system look at Hapstone they are very systems for the money and are fairly well made, with the Wicked Edge the thing to remember is that you have to buy 2 of every stone and that get's cost's fast plus they don't have a lot of different stones to choose from. It's also been...

    Looking for new sharpening jig

When it comes to concern about diamonds wearing metal away fast I would only worry about them if they are an electroplated diamond plate and are in the grit range of 120 to 400 grit,DMT's don't wear metal away to fast no matter what the grit is. The Atoma diamond plates are great but they...

    Looking for new sharpening jig

The to watch when using electro plated diamond plates rather then metallic CBN or stones like the Venev and Matrix stones at lower grits is that the electro plated diamond plates tend to remove steel faster and leave deeper grooves which means more metal is wasted trying to refine the edge. The...
