I am new to knives and the whole community

@SolarMan Welcome to BFs. If your buying from a reputable knife manufacturer don't worry to much about the steel . It's like the difference between a Corolla that gets you where you're going perfectly fine and a Ferrari that's really cool but not always necessary.

    Owning one pocket knife

@emjay There is wisdom in your Fathers logic. I have a large assortment of what many consider the greatest EDC knives yet a Victorinox Farmer is what gets carried most often.

EDC XIII Which knife or knives are you carrying today?

I have many of the latest super steels but in all honesty the simple Victorinox is so easy to get screaming sharp after a few passed on a stone & gets the job done for my normal daily use.

Buck 124 vs Buck 120 PRO

If the 119 handle is small in hand for you , the 124 might be just right. It's an impressive knife imho.
