14" Tram on the way...

I just ordered a 14" Tram and I can't wait to beat it up!

Question:

What is the best way to get an inexpensive sheath to carry it? I'm not good with leather and I really don't want to put it in kydex. Does anyplace sell inexpensive leather or nylon sheaths? Any ideas?

Mods: This may look like it belongs in Maint, but I know these guys use machetes and they may know better. If you could keep this thread here for a while I would appreciate it. Thanks!

in some hardware stores i have seen nylon web sheaths similar to the cold steel ones sold...i am guessing that they would have one that would fit a 14"...check around.

also, you could just buy a cold steel sheath if you felt like it that is around the right size for your machete.

also, congrats on the new purchase!

pvc is your answer. you can get it hot enough to flatten it and from there use some para-cord or tough materiel to make a decent sheath.

this is the only pic i have of mine:

Ontario knife has many sizes (nylon), we got our 18" sheaths (for our tram) and a 12" for my Ontario machete there, maybe the 18 will work for you.

First, where did you pick it up? I'm looking ofr a cheap place to snag one.

Second, I was in a surplus store the other day and they had some nice machete sheaths for cheap. They even had a little sharpener on them. Otherwise I would go with duct tape/cardboard or the PVC route.

Smokey Mountain Knifeworks sells the Trams and sheaths also.I haven't tried their sheaths though.I think the web site is eknifeworks.com

I think machetes are $5.99 and sheaths are like $3.99.

Problem is that many sheaths will not fit the 14in Bolo. I am pretty sure the CS sheath will fit. I bought a Tram from SMKW, and it did not come with a sheath, nor was one available on the site that would fit it. The 18in Ontario sheath does not fit it.

I got a 12" Tram from them and the sheath as well. Sheath works just fine.

I also got the 13" Sugar Cane Cutter Tram from them. Think of it as a poor man's Woodsman's Pal. I just used it for limbing some cut down trees. Works quick and efficiently!

I'll have you know that I blame all of you. I read this thread this morning and after months of seeing people talk about the Trams I finally broke down and ordered two, a 12 and an 18. You guys are a bad influence, which is why I keep coming back!

If you are talking about the bolo, that is a hard one to fit. I am working on that as a part of my latest machete project. I am putting convex edges on them and today I was messing around reshaping the handle for more pinky room. I think I went too far. I should have some news on affordable Tram Bolo sheaths soon.

I found some pretty good leatherette ones to fit the 18" Tram. I have been using mine for over two years.

For some reason, the plastic handles have plenty of room. They seem to hold up well.
