Thinking about getting the Springfield 1911 RANGE OFFICER® COMPACT .45ACP
Any input from people that own this model would be appreciated.

I've had the full size Range Officer for years. While it's not the Compact, it the same platform.

If you're planning on carrying the RO, I can't offer any input there (I carry a CZ Rami). However, I can say that my RO has been extremely reliable and consistent. It has thousands of rounds through it, it's been open-carried around the house, and even seen some competition use.

The trigger is fantastic, it eats every type of ammo I've fed it, and it's super accurate. I put VZ grips on mine and polished all of the internal trigger makeup. The only thing I wish it had was a rail for a light, since it's my bedside weapon.

The only 1911 I like more than mine are the custom Dan Wesson models. I played with one at a show and the slide felt like it was on bearings. I think my mom might be getting one during the next show, she's a gun geek like me:D

I'm a 1911 fan and have carried a GI version for decades. That R/O compact looks sweet for the price.

Everyone shoots guns/compacts differently so there are many favorites. I have never shot a Range Officer Compact but here is a listing from 2015 of favorite 1911 compacts.

I wouldn't suggest buying any compact .45 until you have had a chance to use it at the range. What looks good in reviews often isn't what you like the feel of and one that gives you good accuracy with acceptable reliability.

My regular and compact .45s are both HK USP's because of the factors mentioned. They are not 1911's though.

Probably the nicest .45 compact 1911 I have fired was a Wilson Combat Arms X-Tac-Elite Compact.

No experience with the RO Compact but I do have two Springfield 1911s. Both are lasers and entirely reliable:

My experience has been very positive with them.

The 1911 I've owned for decades is a Springfield and while I've tried Ed Brown and WC , I want to spend under a grand.

It's a great gun. I've put a couple thousand rounds through mine. Only issues were magazine related with a few ten rounders. The only thing I've added is some skateboard tape on the front strap. It's my second choice for a carry gun behind my P225a1. My brother has temporarily commandeered the ROC as his carry gun.

Lol, what are brothers for.:D That P225A1 looks like a real quality piece. Man , you don't know how many times I've thought about getting something to replace my old Gen2 Glock19 but it's become part of my hand after all these years and I just can't do it. What I'm looking for now is something in a compact 1911 platform .45 cal. I've thought a lot about getting one for the last two years including all the trade offs when it gets right down to the nut cuttin. I actually tried a Kimber ultra raptor 2 and it didn't quite fit me right. Nice 45 though.

EMP in 9mm. Its a bit over your $1000 though. I think we gave $1300 for it if I remeber correctly. Its the wife's but sometimes I sneak it out.

I think you'll be happy with the ROC. A few years ago I spent a considerable amount of time with a buddies WC and I still prefer my RO instead. I can't justify 3x the price for (IMO) the same performance.

If you have the chance to shoot the ROC first, go for it. If not, go for it:D The guns I've bought without trying first are some of my favorites; maybe I'm just lucky though.

Some nice looking options. The Border Patrol standard sidearm is a HK nowadays.
