Hi all,

I'm just back from a 2 nights/2 days backpacking trip through the Gatineau Park, Quebec, Canada, and thought I'd share the pics with my W&SS friends!

It was supposed to be a three days hike but the deer flies and mosquitoes were so bad, I walked quite a lot faster than I expected :-)
The idea was to be dropped on one end of the park and walk to the other end (south east) towards home, which is close to the park entrance (see GPS track below).
Total distance was 38 miles (61 kms), through different kinds of trails, including a section on the Trans Canada Trail.

I tried my best to pack as light as possible for this walk, but ended up with a 14 pounds base pack (25 pounds with food and water).
Ah well...I'll try to do better next time; there's a bunch of stuff I didn't need at all (2nd knife, too much clothing, way too much food),
and some items I didn't have (moleskin, vaseline to prevent chafing) and missed. I slept in my Hennessy Hammock.

I enjoyed very nice weather, except some heavy rain for the last mile - can't complain there!

Anyway, here's the pictures I brought back. They're not that great, but hopefully they'll show a tiny bit of the beauty I saw during my trip.

All in all, a very nice walk. Once the blisters heal, I'm ready to go again :D

Thanks for looking!

Beautiful pictures!

Thanks very much for sharing those. Looks like a wonderful trip in some beautiful country

Great looking trip. Looks like some Spreading Dogbane (Apocynum androsaemifolium) in the butterfly picture. (cordage material).

Thanks all!

bcornelis: If you manage to get here, the beer's on me!

Walkabout: Thanks; I really enjoyed your photo thread as well

Doc: Certainly looks like it! Thanks for the enlightment

Nice trip. I miss that place, as I used to frequent Gatineau park (mostly day walks) when I lived in Hull. Hopefully the trail bikers were courteous to you. Thanks for sharing your hike with us!

p.s. my daughter is moving to Ottawa this fall for grad. school. Maybe we can find time in a pub or a hike up the Kingmountain trail sometime during one of my visits?

Great pics of a great place. Lived in Ottawa as a kid and still have fond memories of hiking in the park:thumbup:
