2018 Winter/Christmas Kith

I'm still up in the air about what to try. I have some chef knives hardened up but this is the open kith so I kinda feel like its more fun to go non kitchen. I have some tool steels that would make the whole drop point hunter thing a bit more appealing to receive. The heat treat recipe will be untested though. I would live to get some feedback but I don't want to be handing out a lemon. What do you guys think?

Go for it.

Nearly finished! So I’m looking for some advice and feedback...

First, the finish: it’s at an 800 grit finish, and as you can see if you zoom in it looks like the handle has scratches running the length. They aren’t actually scratches. It’s actually the “grain” of the horn. Should I leave it as is or go higher and buff it out?

Second: how do I deal with the scratch on the blade? I’m not at home, so I don’t have a really good way to re-grind, and if I do just go for it with sand paper, I don’t have any acid here to re-etch. Any suggestions?

If I was you I would redo the blade. Since you don't have a way to regrind it the just hand sand it till it comes out to a nice satin finish.
The handle to me is too bulbous. It's just not quite even so if it was me I'd even that out and slim the contours down so they're more gentle curves.

Anyone in the KITH want to weigh in on a handle choice? Top to bottom: some funky maple burl, redwood lace burl, curly claro walnut, blue dyed maple burl, and curly koa (all stabilized by K&G).

The 2nd and then 3rd are the ones that I like the best.
That second one is awesome, it looks like flames kinda!

Sadly it doesnt appear I'll be able to finish a folder for the kith. No worries as I have an edc fixed blade as a back up to give.
Finished this guy but the scales are not the greatest so I need to redo them and the elmax blade still needs to get heat treated. Oh well. Maybe next time guys!

I’m in. I have this little z-wear edc with a dyed curly anigree handle. I made it for a customer last year, but the handle ergonomics didn’t suit him, and I made a replacement with a less sculpted handle. This came back in the mail today, so I’m using it as my submission. The sheath is very basic, so I think I’ll do a new sheath. It’s Rc62, low temper protocol.

Looks beautiful, Warren. I like the complementary blue spacer, it really makes the dyed anigree pop.

Here's my submission: An EDC in .156" A2 at ~61HRC with a redwood lace burl handle and black canvas micarta liners and pins. The blade is 3.25" long and 8.75" OAL. I'll be working on a tooled leather sheath today and tomorrow.
