Thanks for that. I was scared sh**less going to my 2x42 (fix 2800 rpm) at 40 grit, I went slowly and stopped before I did a mistake I will not be able to repair. Here are some possible handle scales as well.
pretty stuff! and cool looking bade. I just fit up mine for epoxy today. A burlap micarta ferrule with a micarta frame and osage orange scales, alternate ivory spacer , corby bolt and a couple carbon pins for good measure
It was all going so good, I already wanted to start hand sanding... and then this happened. Gonna start on the new one and keep this one for me and testing.
I’m going to try to finish #2. I messed up the first one, very similar to @FredyCro, so hopefully I can finish this one in time.
Since you are all updating, here is my progress on the second blade. I will need to hit the grinder again to convex the edge and even the swedge. I was thinking of hand polishing the bevel and doing a gator finish on the swedge and flats. Still no promises if I f*ck up, hopefully it wont happen. Here is the scale sanded to 120.
Some nice looking blades. Unfortunately, as we are down to one week and I'm out of 400 and 800 grit paper and waiting for an order, so it's not looking good for me.
Well, the blade is a little shorter than it was in my last picture after I ground one area a little too thin and I switched to a different set of desert ironwood scales, but I did get it etched today and should get it glued up tonight so I feel optimistic about finishing on time.
I am going to make too. Just have a little clean up and sharpening. Saya coming too, got one coat of oil on it.
