There are few things as much fun as getting together with a Beckerhead group, and the NE Gather is a perfect example. Had a Blast hanging out learning cool things, playing games, telling stories and listening to stories. The Fire building challenge was legitimately challenging because the wind was NOT cooperating, and it was probably even more fun as a result. (Thanks Bearface for the assist on Izzy's and my towering inferno...lol)
Mad Indian taught people to make a shepherds staff sling, which by the way will huck a LARGE DAMN ROCK.... MUCH Farther that you would believe, and much faster and harder as well.

Thank you as always to the fantastic people, and THANK YOU to Ethan and Kabar for not only the community that spawned these gatherings, but as always for the enormous generosity shown time and time again with the sweet sweet swag boxes that get sent out to these. I had the Amazing fortune to win a BK-62! Like WHAT !?!
So again Thank you to everyone me and the fam got to hang out and play with, and a BIG thank you to Ethan and the Kabar crew !

I made it home. Another great weekend with great folks, good beer and delicious food. Somehow we got lucky and it was 70 degrees on Saturday. What more could you ask for? :)

Thanks to all that made this happen. Thanks Ethan and Kabar. Thanks madindian for teaching us how to build the shepards sling. I'll be a pro with it by fall. Thanks GSOM for cooking a super duper taco feast. Thanks trailbum for organizing. Thanks Bladite for bringing cool toys as usual, especially the book. I'll probably never see another one of them. And thanks to everybody else for just being awesome!

Oh yeah, and Mr. Woodpecker, I still hate you! ;) Some of us were trying to sleep in!

Here's bearfacedkiller bearfacedkiller setting up the fire challenge, build a fire from one stick and burn the string one foot high

daizee daizee offering friendly advice on how to secure the string or trying to be persuasive? Off with his head!!! uh I mean you be the judge
IMG_20190413_123825.jpg

It was friendly advice
IMG_20190413_123829.jpg

So this picture occurs not because I finished first or even early, it's because I gave up. I was a little thrown off my game as I don't like to do feather sticks anymore I've gotten accustom to curls and making the different fuel sizes and keeping the smaller pieces on a bandana or bark. I was losing them in the grass and when I tried to put them on the log they would blow off, the wind was a challenge. When I heard one of the kids had a fire and I wasn't even done with prep I made a crucial mistake and abandoned my tried and true practice to rush a fire and failed quite well at it. Lesson learned, conditions and situations aren't always going to match what I'm used to and I should practice more diverse methods of fire and in real stressful situations stick to what comes naturally and keep calm especially if most of your resources are there.
This one inspired me

A huge thanks to Ethan and KaBar for the swag and knives as always. It's so great to all get together and test and refine skills.

Ah, another great weekend!

I can confirm that my above 'advice' should be ignored. After all, my methods were unconventional...

Only took a couple pictures, but get a kick out of this first one. You can see a tiny bit of my tent peeking out from behind Thorny's 3-bedroom palace. And no, I don't mean the hammock in the background. In fact, looking at his jeep now, I think he just pitched a carport for the family to sleep in:

Snow was MOSTLY gone. Fortunately that included the leach field...

We drank a lot of... water. Yeah.

And a wicked shwag haul from Ka-Bar! Thanks, guys!!
Imma gonna paint those pinkies roarange:

We had a really challenging fire contest (the Wood was a little damp from Friday’s rain).
It was a lot of fun to watch and participate in, seeing everyone adapt to the challenge.

One Stick,knife,lighter challenge.
Daizee used a ferro rod.

The Sheperd sling workshop was hosted by Themadindian.
Let me tell you slinging fist size rocks upwards to 50 yards is a lot of fun. Seriously brings out the inner child.
