2021 HIKING THREAD.

There is a low key hiking contest around here, with 10 different small hikes, you have to find your path and answer a question (i.e what is written on this stone found somewhere around x) and when finished before September you have a chance to win some stuff, or a night in a hotel etc...
We started the first tour today, the one nearest to us and we found our way. That was 13km (8 miles)

Beautiful weather and quite some people about.

Whatever happened here...

And the answer to the first question is: Ritter von Alsenzborn :)

Next week we have a holiday and we've planned to take two tours, one is directly on the border to France and I hope to find some old bunkers and parts of the Maginot-line..

Today we invaded France via the green border:)
But not without walking by the biggest sand rock formation in Rhineland Palatinate.

There is a French military training ground near, so we walked the whole way with the sound of artillery in the background:)

As I can only attach 10 pictures, the 14 and the 17 helped on the way:)

I am very sorry for spamming: But we did another competition hike today, we went to the most photographed trail in Rhineland Palatinate today, the Karlstal, a very picturesque trail where the Bavarian King Ludwig was quite often and thought it was great...

Here are the pics:

Great pics.
Looks like a great time.
It was a great time. I am not very experienced in camping in the rain. Our tent was the only dry place. I need to figure a way of setting up tarps or something to have some semi dry out-of-tent space. All of my experience camping is in Arizona and Florida, very little rain in those parts.

Indeed it seems you had a wonderful outing:) One of the nicest sounds is the rain on the tent when your warm and snuggly inside.
I've been to North Carolina once in my life, but only in Raleigh, and i definitely missed quite a bit!

Looks like you had a good day :) Where is that? It looks like quite tropical already.

I do have a question about hiking in the US: As you got a fair bit more wilderness than we do, how big is the chance to come across "dangerous" wildlife on well hiked trails?

The only fear we have is to stumble upon wild hogs, other than that, not so much

trailbum trailbum Did you go for a swim in the spring? Those trails start feeling long when you get in sections with soft sand.
