2022 Ben Hogan #65 thread

Only Ben Hogan I have is this (1 of 25) Ebony lock-back from 2012. Haven't seen that many of the LB version
Almost looks to be a Copperhead type pattern, is one of my favorites and serial no.13 seems appropriate for Ben LOL
Thing is if you know the Ben Hogan story, he was tied to the legend of French Kate
Still kicking myself for not picking up a GEC Ebony French Kate in 2011 to go along with

When I first started collecting GEC knives (2015), there was a #65 that I liked just sitting on a couple dealers’ shelves for quite a while, but there were also other GECs sitting on dealers’ shelves that I wanted more, so I never ended up getting one. My interest in this run will really depend on the blade and cover materials.

Edited to add: It was this one.

Found these in the GEC Store, in 2012, at the Rendezvous!! A good time for Stag!! ;)Ben Hogan Mark.jpgBen Hogan Pile.jpg It was easier to buy nice knives back then!! They put a lot of time into fit and finish. These are both very smooth and firm!! The locks give a lot of confidence, without having to "white knuckle" them!!

I wonder what blade shape we will get. I don't believe sheepsfoot been run. Hope to see camel bone as an option. Either way, I'm excited to see these on the schedule...just as long as it's not a muscrat clip, sabre grind, or stainless...

This is my one and only #65 but I will definitely try to add to it with this new run! Would love one with that beautiful long clip point. Incidentally this one (652111EC in "genuine" stag) seems to be one of those mystery runs that doesn't exist anywhere on the published production totals, at least not that I can find.

Nice one, Caleb!! Can you show us the other side??

Thanks, Caleb!!
P.S. I didn't know it was made with a Spear blade!?
Most of the #65s you'll see will have the clip pt but there was a run of spear blades in 2011. It's hard to figure out what varieties and exactly how many because there are a lot of holes in the published data. The production totals by year list half a dozen different cover materials for the run of spear blades, but when you look at the pictures under knife releases by pattern you can find pics of two more cover materials, with spear blades, that are not listed anywhere on the production totals. And then there's the one I have, which is not listed in either place 🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm getting interested too. Like you and others, I had the chance at one time back in the 'sanity days' but opted for something else. I'm glad they're re-introducing this pattern.

What I'd go mad for: Barehead, Spear 😍

Thanks, Will

Hoping for some good cover choices. Someone mentioned desert ironwood earlier - I think that would look great. I'm not a fan of GEC stainless, but hard to pass when they use Elk.
