Did a quick search and didn't find a discussion thread yet. Please forgive me if I have overlooked it.
3 Months into the new year might be a good time to get the ball rolling with some discussion.
The annual forum knife is something I always look forward to. This forum has come up with some amazing knives over the years.
It's a fun tradition and I'd love to see it continue. It does seem that making the forum knife happen has become more and more difficult over the years. I am grateful to all those who have stepped in on past projects to see them through.

I'm in, but the process has to be owned by a "Knife Committee"...... No arm chair quarterbacking, griping, pouting, etc.... Once the knife design and material specifications are handed off to "The Committee", it is their job to get the knife manufactured and distributed....

Last year was a cluster, with everyone trying to run the show.... Let's get 2-3 people on a Committee; get a supplier and design decided upon, then let the Committee do their work....

There was a lot of drama associated with the 2021 Forum Knife. I am not sure if there will be a 2022 Forum Knife because of that.

I’m definitely in. What HEMI 49 HEMI 49 said. I don’t think last years forum knife process was bad at all. Could it have been a little smoother? Sure, there’s always room for improvement. And in my opinion that’s what the case should be, finding ways to streamline and improve the process. To end the forum knife tradition would be unfortunate. I am definitely in and I agree with having a committee of volunteers who will help out and streamline the process so we don’t run into anything that upset folks from last year.

But I believe it’s usually Charlie who starts these threads if I’m not mistaken

Never have before, but I think I would be in on a forum knife this year. I like smallish. I like stag, bone and ebony. I like two blades and I like good steel😊

I really like the idea of a committee. Three or four of the long time regulars, who generally know what is desirable... decide what it will be, negotiate it, and put it out as a "here it is, buy it or don't" kind of thing.
As has been stated many times.... it's not so much about the knife, as it is the spirit of the porch...

I would be completely happy with a few forum members collaborating as a "committee" on a forum knife and coming up with something they think people here would like. Maybe come up with two three options on what could be done and have a vote on that. Then whatever is settled on will be what is produced take it or leave it. Maybe that would help cut out some of the bickering that has happened in the past.

I'm not sure what manufacturers would be willing or interested in doing a knife for us.
Most people here like GEC made knives, but they seem to be cutting back on doing the special order stuff.
A fixed blade might be an option, don't believe we have had a fixed blade forum knife.

Last year's fiasco left it's mark on the Porch, and not in a good way - it hasn't felt the same since. Not to me, anyway.

Someone who has the ability to pull the strings will need to propose a sensible and robust plan for organizing a forum knife before I would be on board again. I don't mind a little spirited argument regarding the finer details (it is usually in good nature) - but last year just brought out the meanness. I am not at all interested in repeating that.

Well said, and I agree this would probably be a good way to do it.
