2023 PA knife law

In January it became legal to carry an otf but PA is weird with knife laws. Different municipalities all have different knife laws and most of the time it's at the discretion of the officer anyways. In most places you're fine carrying a non auto with a blade 3.5" or less. Where I'm at you routinely see people walking around with a bowie on their belt and no one cares. Cities aren't very knife friendly in PA.

Thank you
SB1013 passed the PA house 202-1 & the PA Senate 50-0... Impressively bipartisan and unanimous that you can now legally carry auto's per state law...

As other's have stated however, check within local municipality statutes, particularly in cities, because without preemption regarding knife laws, local ordinances could still outlaw them. Weird to think that very many would, considering how unanimously the bill to repeal the law passed, one would think most municipalities within each house district and senate district would also be on board with their house reps and senators, but sometimes it is better to be safe than sorry...

However, if the local ordinances banning auto's were written predating the new law repealing said ban statewide, you could take the near unanimous statewide ruling to repeal said law and just assume "implied preemption" over outdated preexisting law, and if you ever find yourself in legal trouble because of it, fight it on those grounds and try to get the charges overturned in a higher court if need be, potentially setting the new precedence for case law supporting knife premption?

Or just check and be safer rather than sorrierer...
