What type of plugs are you folks using for your 2hp+ 220v single phase motors? Do you guys use a dryer plug or RV outdoor type plugs. Pictures would be nice.

Thanks to all you guys that post so much good info.

image.jpgI am probly one of the last people that should respond to an electrical post but I did just go through this same thing with an old air compressor that didn't have a plug. I unplug my dryer to use it. The directions on the new plug said to put the white wire in the middle but the compressor didn't work right until I put the green wire there. Rookie mistake I guess

For motors I use SO cable to the motor, and a twist lock connection between the power source and the motor twist lock connection. I find these connectors to be very easy to manage.

The connector on the left is for 208 single phase 20 amp service. The one on the right is 3 phase 208 20 amp service.

This is the male side of the 3 phase 208 connector, it mates with the above plug, on the right side.

The connector you use, will be determined by the line voltage you have, and the amperage you need for the motor. Matching a NEMA plug with that information is very easy when you have chosen the style plug you will use.

I wired all my 220v single phase equipment to a standard 50A welder outlet and then I have a few adapters for other types of outlets (dryer / stove / 50A twist lock) which I can use if I'm taking equipment elsewhere. My 2HP KBAC 27D on my KMG is wired right to the motor, my other KBAC 27D is wired to a 3phase twist lock outlet.
