I personally think it depends on a lot of things. Things like: how you use a knife, what you use it for, knife pattern and the grind the knife has.
My apologies for not answering the question more directly but I'd have to know some more before I could give an opinion that would be of much value.

I was using a lot of thicker knives 1/4 , 3/16 and as I have picked up a few 5/32nds and 1/8 I find they do an excellent job and they certainly cut better then a thicker blade but like IZ said it depends what you want to do , for feather sticks and battoning my 1/8 has not failed me yet though
