3/4 HP Disc Grinder?

Hi,

I found a good deal on a lesson 3/4 HP motor, and was hoping to use it for a disc grinder. I know that 1 hp is a very common motor size for a disc grinder, so wanted to make sure the 3/4 wouldn't be too underpowered. I have a single speed 2x72 I built, but am hoping to use the disc grinder with variable speed to finish bevels from a 120 grit belt finish and to flatten handles/guard material. Will I be disappointed with 3/4 HP?

Thanks

I can't imagine why it wouldn't work just fine. I'm assuming it's a 3 phase 56 frame?

hell, the 1/3hp setup I just built has more than enough power for my needs. if anything 3/4 might be slightly overkill (not that that's an issue ;))

I agree, I have two 1/2HP disc grinders that work great. The 3/4HP is for the Nielsen system.

Far more important than the HP is VFD reversible. The good thing is that sub-HP VFDs can often be found for cheap. Same for sub-HP 3ph motors.
DC and a DC speed control works, too.
