Hello All,

Sorry it's taken so long to post this. I had to make it a priority tonight to get it done. It's not a lot of writing but has been in the works for months due to all of the other crazy things I am into.

I hope you enjoy the review. Ethan Becker, thank you very much for designing a fantastic knife with a very defined, yet broad, purpose. I'm trying not to get choked up about it.

Great review survivor. I do agree with you, the sheath is no problem for me. I much prefer leather but have no issues With the stock sheath. Thanks for sharing, excellent.

I've been to your website a few times, you guys have some good times.

My favorite Becker; please see my signature image.

The BK-5 is a slicer. It cuts. When pressed it can do other things as well but for slicing and cutting - it excels.

A "do all" knife is like a "do all" boat, aircraft or vehicle - a compromise at best and a frustrating illusion at worse. When coupled with a small ax, hatchet or the like - the BK-5 is THE camp knife. In fact, there is not too much food that can't be prepped (from fin/fur/feather to plate, and everything in between) with a BK5 and BK15.

If backpacking or some other pursuit where weight and space are concerns, limiting the knives one has will be the order of things but when not constrained by weight or space, I'll take a BK5, BK15 along with a BK9, as well as a BK2 or BK10. You, OTOH, decided to do it all with the BK5 - kudos to you (and Mssrs. Becker and Fisk) for the endeavor - and for the success, both with endeavor and with the knife as well.

Thank you for sharing.

Great review!

A testament to the great tool that it is. The more I use my 5 (and 15) the greater appreciation I get for it. In my current EDC bag I pair my 5 with a 2 and a 15. I've never had a task that I haven't been able to accomplish with that set up (to this point in time).

My boy seems to like the 5 as well, he's still a little too young to use it ;)

Great write up! I have yet to be in a situation where I need one to attempt it all but its good to know its capabilities. It just goes to show that with really any of Ethan's knives and the proper hand, you can easily get by most any task/situation

Its a great knife for sure. As said, it excels and accomplishes things no one would really think it would. Mr. Fisk and Uncle E hit it out of the park. Great review! Keep 'em coming!

Great review. I think a lot of people glance over the the 5 (and 15) and think they have to have a he-man 9 or 2 to be a woodsman.

Don't have time to read right now, but I definitely want to check back in on this later.

Edited: so went back and read it. Wow. Can't believe you were able to stick with this one blade over three years. I've always seen Ethan say to work with it for a month, but that's some commitment. Now I want to take it out and give it a good working before I even take the 4 out.

I think you are probably right, Spike. We have a 2 and although I love the knife, it isn't particularly suited to anything well other than batoning and even then, the short blade hurts you if you aren't splitting small rounds. Don't get me wrong. I think the two is an awesome knife. I'm just the kind of guy that prefers to have a knife that is very well suited to the majority of tasks I'll be using it for. I like to be effective with the time I'll spend on a task.

Looks like I may need to edit my post to give Jerry Fisk some credit. Is he on here? I'd like to know exactly how he was involved so I can be accurate with my changes.

Yeah, he comes on here.

Since it appears that they co-designed the knife based on that video you posted, I've made a few changes to my original write up.

Yep, at 2:15 in the vid, Ethan says 'I designed the handle, Jerry designed the blade'.

The 5 and 15 are my favs.

Nice review.

nice review!
Good to see you around here, SM.
