3Cr13MoV

I think This steel is used in The little BK-13 that comes with the Becker BK7 and BK9. Ethan Becker told me it's similar to 420.

How does this steel compare to 8Cr13MoV? Spyderco recently posted the bug knife on their site and listed this as the blade steel.

probably like 420 mod, relatively low carbon, ~0.3%

I agree, 420 modified. I would be surprised if the HRC is consitently above 56.

I agree with these gents. 3Cr13MoV is similar to 420 modified as opposed to 420HC. It is not an alloy I would ever knowingly choose for blade steel.

Nor I. Frankly, I am quite surprised to see a Spyder hole in that knife. I would have expected it to be marketed under the Byrd branding.

It's a reasonable steel as long as it's sufficiently hard and acutely ground.

Keep in mind that this is really a novelty knife. More like a keychain or cellphone decoration. It isn't even 3" fully opened. And it sells for $8 list.

It does split from Spyderco's usual schtick, making boutique knives in premium steels for premium prices. It'd be interesting to see how this one goes over.
