I have noticed that 3M diamond lapping films are available on the web, and are apparently cut to the correct size for use with Wicked Edge's glass platens. These films have a PSA backing and are available in grits that are the same or very close to what Wick Edge offers. And the sheets of films that I have seen advertised are much less expensive that the films sold by Wicked Edge.

For the budget-conscious, wouldn't these films be a good choice verses those sold directly by Wicked Edge?

I haven't used them before. I have only used WE lapping films. You can also ask on the WE forum. It seems like there are a lot of WE haters on this forum. I can't figure out why some spend thousands on a knife and get mad because the Pro Pack III is $1250...

A couple of years ago, I bought 1mic and 3mic 6"x 6" 3M lapping films on eBay which came in a 25 pack and if I remember correctly, I paid $30.- per pack.
I attach them to the glass platens with 3M Scotch double sided removable tape and they perform very well, I can not see why the ones that WE sells would be any better.
Each sheet can be cut in to 7 strips so these will last me the rest of my life and cost me less then $0.20 each.
