So, it arrived to me yesterday, and I put it to wait to review it today.

First impression was good, but first thing I went to check was how sharp it was - then my next impression was kinda dull. It would barley cut paper, but it wouldn't shave. I seen worse tho, but OK.

So I got the knife sharp and with that out of the way I went to freeze myself a little testing it outside in this cold morning.

But then, I noticed there's an issue.

There's gap between kraton of the handle and the tang of the knife. Which is bad, as water will get inside and I will not be able to get it dry, and as result, the tang will rust and corrode.

QC really went down with Cold Steel. Especially given that friend of mine has another issue with that same knife - sheath dulling it. Cold Steel will most likley just keep ignoring these threads the same way they ignored them so far. Very disappointing.

How far down does that gap really go? I'd wager not that far and as such I would guess that rust caused by water ingress won't be much of an issue.

Try to gently push a pick down in the gap, something slim and tapered enough to find the bottom without separating the kraton from the tang.

It has me curious how these handles are put on now. Are they injection molded to the tang? Or are they molded and slipped on? If they are slipped one what you might be seeing is just a bit of handle that hasn't slid up completely and is a little puckered? Or maybe it was worn away a bit while being slipped on?

I extended a part of paper clip and it went all the way in without an issue unfortunatley. I can just say it goes in at least 1cm deep. That's a lot.

I don't know how they put that handle on, but however they did it - it ended up bad.

Well that's a bummer.

We'd be more than happy to take a look at it for you! Please reach out to us. I have not seen this handle issue and want to investigate further as well as ensure you get a knife that isn't like that.
I’ve seen this issue on older master hunters, and with kobuns both old and new versions. Is this a defect?

I appreciate this answer. However, as I am in Europe, It would be hard and painful process for me to send it in the US to you, price of shipping would exceed the price of the knife itself.

But this is kind of answer I hoped to get and thank you for this. I'm glad to see that CS does care.

I contacted the seller, they offered me a refund as they don't have another one in stock to send me a replacement, this was the last one they had. My initial plan was to keep it, but fill it with epoxy or something, but then again - my friend E EatingSarma offers me to take his that has no gap on the handle, and give him the cash, as he cannot return his knife since he had it more than 2 weeks.

I can email you more pics of the knife if that would help, I've searched entire box and the knife itself to get you at least a serial number but there's no any that I can find. I will reach out to you for the sheath though.

I understand why someone else might care a great deal. Myself, I would just fill the opening with some epoxy or goop and not worry about it.

I mean these things aren't cheap and this isn't really a hobby someone who doesn't have spare cash.

I pretty much got rid of all knives that aren't users. I'm a student and I'm paying all that on my own plus helping my family as much as I can, and I suffered unexpected expenses latley.

3 or even 2 knives will be enough for me.
