4 Max Scout

The ad10 is 3.6 actually, at least by my measurements.
Sure, with a 5.36" handle. When people think of a 3.5" blade, they don't imagine a 9" knife.
Don't get me wrong, i love my AD10, but i'll carry my Lawman any day. I baton, pry and split wood with my Lawman just fine.

Yes the AD10 is awesome too. I got a bit ripped off I see haha. It was in hand and felt so good I didnt shop around. Also since we are talking nice Cold Steel knives i love my Ultimate Hunter too. I feel like it's an AD10 Jr. And the Scout is the scaled up Ad10. I might have to spring for the expensive 4 Max. This Scout feels extremely solid. It's really amazing. The weight. The bullet proof feel.

Hey guys. Question. I always have trouble trying to post a pic here. Like i copy the URL and the pic does not show up. How can you post it so the pic is showing in the post?

But you said you needed a 3.5max Scout. The 4max is an enlarged AD10, per Andrew Demko, so a 3.5max would be an AD10. Sure the handles are large, but thats never kept me from carrying either of mine.

I haven't read any comments on this and no one has a 4Max available to handle around me so let me ask a few questions.
Is the Max4 Scout's handle beefy and rounded like the AD10 or is it flatter?
Is its handle height (not width or length) shorter than the AD10?
Thanks.

It is slightly rounded around the middle, and radiused on the edges of the scales. It is not as nicely finished as the ad10, but it is still very comfortable to use.
It's about the same height, give or take.

If you're on the fence about it, it an be had for $83 at certain places (can't name them as i don't think they are a supporting vendor but they are popular as they are the exclusive distributor of the hogue ritter rsk MK1-G2).

If you end up not liking it I'm sure you can sell it with little trouble as it is a VERY popular knife!

I have both knives open and sitting next to each other on their backs right now. The 4 Max Scout has flat scales that are slightly shorter in height than the AD-10's. I have size XL hands and the AD-10 feels just about perfect -- could be a tiny bit larger, while the 4 Max Scout feels a tiny bit too small from perfect. Both are very comfortable to me, though.

Thank you, gentlemen. I have XL hands. When I grip the AD-10 my fingers are a little smashed together to fit the handle. I could use about an 3/16"-1/4" more handle length for a comfortable grip. I love the AD-10's handle otherwise. I thought about dremelling the back end of the handle out a little to give my pinky more room but don't know if the blade edge sitting that close to the handle would be dangerous.

desmobob desmobob Are you saying the grip area on the 4Max Scout is actually shorter in length than the AD-10? Actual handle gripping area is always a concern with me. So many knives' handles look big enough but when I handle them the actual gripping area is not enough. It's usually to do with any finger grooves, but mostly the pinky-end of the handle either swooped down abruptly or having a weird shape. I loved the Strider handle shape but there's few things about them, one being price, I don't like or I'd have a few of them.

No... The scooped-out part of the handle where your fingers fit is just about 1/2" longer than the AD-10. If your fingers are a little bit scrunched together in the AD-10, you'll probably have plenty of room in the 4 Max Scout. The thickness of the two handles are the same at .65". The AD-10's handle is a little bit taller (from the Triad release to the blade slot) by just 1/10".

The 4 Max Scout's handle feels longer, but a tiny bit smaller around, than the AD-10's. And that is confirmed by measuring it.

Thank you very, very much Desmobob! That's exactly what I wanted to know. I could always whip up my own scales for the 4Max if I don't like the stock ones. Probably have to sheath carry it then. :)

I figure I'd bump this great post for some folks around here. I've purchased 3 of these and an American 4max, and they are really nice knives and haven't gotten a bad one yet....knock on wood. I got a couple for family members so I may need just one more. Thanks OP nice thread.
