I am making a new cutting Table for my 4 X 6 band-saw.
The cutting slit in in front of the saw blade.
My other band-saw is made the same way. I was just going to cut the
table as I mounted it. That would mean the cut is behind the blade.
Is there a reason manufacturers make them in front of the blade??

I think it's designed that way so that you don't need to remove the table to change the blade.

Earler post on the HF bandsaw. I realy like this mod.

Jarod,
When you get your saw, weld up a really heavy table with an arm that clamps in the stock clamp on the saw. That way when you ant to use it vertical, you just clamp in the table (using the pipe/stock clamp) , and when you want to go horizontal, you just remove it quickly. No bolting/unbolting that flimsy table that comes with the saw.

Mike, I'll try and pull it out of the shed and stick it on the 7X12 and take some photos.
Here is the basic build plan:
Cut two or three pieces of 2X2 box channel steel tubing about 16" long. These pieces will go in the clamping vise.Weld them together along the seams to make a 2X6 stack (grind the excess weld metal so the sides are straight). Cut a table from nice heavy stock, about 8"wide and 12" long, 1/4" does good. Round the corners, and cut a slot 6" down the center, or about half way. Now clamp the 2X6 stack in the vise, and temporarily clamp the table plate to the cheap ass table that came with the saw. Adjust the table until it is exactly where you want it, and clamp down good ( depending on your saw,and how big you made the table, you may have to cut a notch in the back corner of the table plate to clear the band saw frame).Cut 3 pieces of 2X2 box tubing, and miter the ends until they will fit between the vise stack and the bottom of the table. One about 3" on each side of the blade, and the other one in the front at the outer edge, straight in front of the blade ( you may havde to cut down teh cheap table to make room for fitting ).Fit them one at a time ( this is where a disc grinder shines), tack welding them in place as they are fitted. When all is good, weld it all up solid. The old sheet tin table will no longer be needed now. When you want to use the saw as a vertical unit, lock it in the upright position, slip on the table, clamp the base in the vise, and saw away.It is rock solid.
You could use 1/2" plate, instead of the box tubing, using a 6X16X1/2" clamp plate , and one upright (4-5" wide) that attaches in front of the blade ,alinging with the slot.
