For an MSRP of $260 for the Arcane the scales should not be chiipping as they do. Is this a bad run?

My 1 month old 490 is showing 4 tiny chips on its black scales.
Now I bought the same knife off the forum and it shows similar chips.

Sure, I can also touch them up with a black sharpie, but if this is BM's idea of quality control on a $260 knife, then I'll be looking for another company to continue to build my collection with!

The durability of the coating/finish doesn't really have anything to do with quality control. My experience with anodized aluminum scales is that they do show wear easily, especially when carried in pockets with other items like keys or change etc. I don't think there is anything special with the Arcane, it's not a hard coat type finish on the scales. Maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Thx for that reply. From what I can see it is a factor of the coating. Its not like its pure aluminum. There is a coating onto of what ever the scales are made of which is showing chips under the black into a white underlayment. I'm not a knife build expert but what ever the coatingis is way too fragile. I only use the pocket clip and never put anything metallic in the same pocket, yet these tiny little chips have appeared on two of the exact same models I own. This is cleary not a quality made build. I currently own 5 BM's so far. If I called their c/s to send it in for repair, I know the girl on the other end will say (just like the answer that all companies give) "no, we have not had anyone complain about this issue". So its useless to send it in for this. I'll get it back and it will conitinue to chip. And I'm not about to pay decent money for this model and keep it in a safe, not for a mid priced production type knife.

No point now. I've touched up about 8 of them 4 each on each 490 with a black sharpie. I'm sure new ones will pop up shortly and I'll post back.
And no problem posting a pic as you are probably looking at the forums newest paid basic membership  who can now post BF hosted pics! I'll up my membership level when I start selling knives. Me thinks I might be starting selling very soon with two un-named BM folders in my collection ;)

it could be a coating or surface prep issue but unless its a hardcoat anodize it will chip to some extent. i have had experience with tons of coatings esp pvd, dlc, ceracote, and duracoat and they all chip/show wear and im talking about blades that exceed $1000 but results may vary.
