Okay I've been wondering what others think of the practicality of these for a while and wanted to open it up to discussion.

5.11 has in their Tac Lite Pro pants a supposed "knife pocket" just below the right hand pocket. Now I remember being at a product development conference they had here in Vancouver where somebody suggested this a few years ago. However the idea then was to have a mini pocket or sleeve inside the main pocket ton conceal the knife/clip. Here's a link to the pants I'm talking about with a knife conveniently clipped inside the knife pocket. http://www.511tactical.com/browse/H...nts/D/30100/P/1:100:10000:10100:10101/I/74273

Anybody here have these pants or use this pocket?

Now again 5.11 has a knife pocket inside some of their boots. I have a pair of their ATAC Storms which are great boots, but I find the knife pocket to be too small for anything I own. Anyone else been able to use this ?

Knife pocket is right below on the suede at the top of the boot.

Or for a handcuff key if you're in a "difficult situation"

I hate it when that happens!

I do have the covert khakis with the mag pouches in the pocket. Holds a full size Spyderco nicely.

I wear Carhartt's with a pocket like that...great for a cell phone. I have tried knives in them but the pocket was to shallow for some and never felt secure to my like clipping it in the front pocket does.

Did you know that in an emergency, the tweezers from a SAK can be used to make a working "slip" for handcuffs?

As can a paperclip, hair clip, pen clip, sliver of credit card, etc. I'm amazed at how easy it is to shim and pick cuffs, and how rarely it happens. Whenever my customers tell me they carry chained cuffs I always advise hinged models. Much harder to escape from.

I have those pants and use that pocket exclusively for my cell phone. Its pretty convenient for that purpose. I usually clip my endura to the right rear slash pocket where it is reinforced. I like those pants a lot. I need to pick up a few more pairs from Blumenthals... :)

I have the tac lite's and I love them and I have only had them for a day or so but I find that the front little pocket is good for my Surefire E1L or a Spyderco Delica or mini grip or a small Case knife or something along those lines.

I am a 5.11 dealer and I love them, much more than the origional tactical pant, I even find the teflon finish makes them pretty waterproof. I use the front pocket for a knife, or my surefire e2e, I find it too deep for many mags but great for a knife or light. I do usually use the right reat slash pocket though, faster access and more concealed.
