5/32's, Or #4 Metric Scale Bolts?

I see a lot of threads that have included that the scale bolts are 5/32, and that people carry a 5/32 in their kits, etc. I noticed that the 5/32's Allen wrench is a little loose. It seems to me that the a #4 metric fits perfectly. Correct me if I'm wrong.

For which knife man . For BK2, 5,9, 7, 10 all of mine have been 10/32 NF screws that's Camillus and KaBar. But yeah the wrench is 5/32 for those.

I just tried it on the bk2. A number 4 fits perfect. A 5/32 works, but it's loose.

I just tried 2 different 5/32's Allens. One actually did fit better than the other one. Go figure. But a #4 Allen fits exactly. I only have one to test it with, but it works perfectly.

I only have metric hardware and tools, and yes, the 4mm allen wrench has a perfect, snug fit on the bolts on my BK9.

I replaced all mine with stainless, and a 5/32" for 10-24 bolts worked perfect. Fits exactly. However, according to a recent conversation with Maethor, a 4mm metric is the same size as a 5/32" imperial. Or is supposed to be.

I don't have a metric allen wrench, but my 5/32 allen wrench is a little loose.

Has anyone had a 5/32 not work?
There's a Torx bit that I use too, can't remember the size though. T-25 I think.

Yeah, I know this thread is old, but whilst applying my micarta scales to my new BK11 last night....I did not have the right size! Nor did any of my neighbors. Does anyone know the size? I got them in almost the whole way with some chanel clamps...I know, I know, but it worked. I just want to get them in all the way. I might go to Lowe's today to figure it out if I don't hear back from ya'll.

If you have a torx set you can use I think it is a #20 that works for the fullsize 10-24 bolts.

Nikki - diggin' the new sig.

Not sure I'll be of any use - my bk24 didn't come with scales. I wound up using 8-32 stainless hardware in the one I built. I'm going home early today, so I'll double check which wrench I use.

Do you know if you have #10, #8 or #6 threads? #8 (Tweener) should use 9/64, and #6 standard is 7/64. #10 (Full-Size) uses 5/32.
I got a Bondhus Gorilla Grip fold-up allen wrench tool. The yellow one in US sizes has a key to fit any/all of my Beckers.

I assume you're talking the factory Micarta scales. Someone who has mounted those should be able to chime in soon.

Or PM Bladite to see if he can add it to the Database. Most H/W is in there, and it mentions BK11 Factory Micarta, but I don't see a listing for Hardware for the factory scales on the Necker or Eskabar.

To keep it On Topic: As stated above, the full-sizers take 5/32 - that's the standard for both #10 and #12 hardware. 5/32 = .15625. 4mm = .15748. Guess that's why the 4mm is more snug. But it's a made-in-USA Becker. Who's sticking metric tools in there???
Not to mention putting a Torx key in an Allen socket, but hey, if it works - it works!

Okay - my BK16 and BK24 (8-32 screws) both take 9/64. A T20 fits in there, but it's real loose and I wouldn't do it. I don't have a corresponding metric equivalent.

My BK7 will accept a 5/32, 4mm, or, in a pinch, a T25 torx. But you'll strip it out sooner or later. I see why BK&T spec'd the #10 H/W - that's an amazing array of tools for one screw.

As for the BK11 factory micarta - I don't imagine they would use bigger screws on the necker than they do the tweener. And a #6 is just tiny. So, if I could only buy one and had to do it sight-unseen, I'd grab a 9/64. But you're going to want to pull the scales off the BK10 eventually - or at least put some loctite in there - so you'll need a 5/32 anyway. Or get the fold-up tool - it's handy, and seems to be of a higher quality than most of the individual keys that I've picked up over the years.

Torx #25 (by stanley) fits perfect for the bk2 Derek. I also tried two different #4..and one did fit better that the other. The cheap #4 stripped.

Got it figured out, the BK11 uses a 3/32 wrench. Boom, it's looking sweet now.

Yeah, I knew it was somethink like that. Also, I believe it is a fairly standard size torx that fits the tweeners as well. No idea about the 11/14's though. Bolt sizes are 10-24 for the full size Beckers (probably supposed to be 10-32 but those seem to be hard to come by, so you're better off replacing nut and bolt with 10-24) 8-32 for the tweeners, and 6-32 for the BK11/14. Good luck and godspeed to whoever resurrected this crazy old thread and needed help or guidance or whatever, hopefully we hath pointed you in the right direction.
