56C, 56J, Electric motors

So if I had a grinder that said it used a 56c frame motor then I could probably use the 56j?

IIRC, a 56J has a type 56 body, a C face, and a threaded shaft. I also think it designates the motor as stainless ( Or maybe it is just the shaft?).

like on the EERF, or GIB?

It would bolt on, but the shaft is different as Stacy said
It has a threaded stub on the end.

I believe that is should work for you.
Ensure the keyway is there.

It looks like this.
It's best to have your drive wheel in your hand and the motor in hand before you commit to buying that motor.

Yeah thats what I thought must be why it was so cheap I'll just stick with a 56c

keep an eye on things like craigslist and kijiji, I picked up my 3 phase 1.5hp 56c motor for $50 and it had never been used. The person that was selling it got it in a table saw and pulled it out to switch over to single phase.
