So I wondering is their that much more that a 8" stone can do then a 6". I really want to get a couple dmt 6" or 8". Just wondering if the 8 are worth the $. Most of the sharping I do is one 3 to 4" fixed and pocket knives. But I do have A 7" and 13" that need to see the stones every so often. Also
Is their any difference in the dmt diamond vs the smith only because I can buy the smiths at lowes witch means ill have them faster.

I hate my 6" DMT because it runs out of real estate right before I naturally finish a stroke on the stone. Maybe it's because I'm just used to 8", but I would never buy another 6" unless I had a very specific use for it.

I recently purchased the Falkniven DC521 combination diamond/ceramic stone that measures 2"x8'. It blows away any diamond sharpener that I've used yet ,and I have a lot of DMT diamond stones.

8 inch, it is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it! Doesn't cost that much more to go first class.

Blessings,

Omar

I ended up with a 6" dual coarse/extra coarse grit Dia-Sharp because almost all of my knives have blades of 4" or less and I mostly use the Sharpmaker which easily handles my 8" chef's knife. If I thought I'd spend more time with bench stones I would definitely go bigger too. I bought the DMT stone more to experiment with.

I've got one of those too and It really does a great job on axes as well.

What grit would this compare to In the dmt line. Is the diamond on the falkiben the same as the fine dmt?

Sorry, Omar... but in light of the direction this thread has taken, your previously innocent post is now hilarious. :p

To actually add the discussion, the extra length of the 8" for the $20-$40 more (depending on which ones you are looking at) is worth it to me for the ease of use for longer knives and convenience of sharpening.

Longer strokes- gets you there quicker. Haha.

I corrected my post. It's a model DC521 and it is rather aggressive on the diamond side. I'd rate it coarse. The ceramic side is a fine grit for touching up or finishing.

I used a 6" stone for years before going to a 8". Though the 6" works well an 8" is two steps up in comfort and room to sharpen 4"+ blades. I was very surprised at the benefits of this move. I still carry a 6" in my pickup but the 8" remains my hands down favorite to use? DM
