I'm not familiar with these 2 steels, I could read all about them. But I was hoping to hear from ones who have and use knives with either steel, and your opinion on them.

Both are Chinese budget steels. 8cr about on par with aus-8, and 420hc for edge retention, all around decent cheaper stainless. 3cr, eh, not so much. Maybe one step above the no name gas station knives.

I've used 8cr13mov in two blades: Spyderco Persistence (plain edge, satin finish) and Kershaw Clash (combo edge, bead blast).

Kershaw's 8cr with bead blast corrodes easily and really turned me off.

Spyderco uses it to great effect in the Tenacious family. No corrosion issues.

This steel takes a great edge, very quickly and easily.
