Since autos are now legal to carry in most parts of Texas, I decided its time to get one. After reading some reviews and watching some videos, I decided on the AFO II. Just asked my local BM dealer to get one coming and needless to say I'm excited. Wanted to know from long term owners just how good it really is before I pay/take delivery.

Also a Texas resident and I picked up an AFO 2 as my first auto. Great knife. I think you will be pleased. It's such a great knife that I'm surprised Bechmade doesn't have a manual version since auto are illegal in many states.

I'm a misplaced Texan, and have been for about ten years so I hope you could give me a pass on digging up this dead horse of a topic. How are you guys fairing on your AFO 2 autos. I'm looking really hard at the black Tanto

Im really digging mine! Fires hard and locks up solid every time. A little thick, but fills the hand nicely.
Pic just because

if it were legal for me to own an auto, I'd definitely have one of these

I have carried an AFO on and off for over 20 years in several configurations. They are wonderful knives and built like tanks. I currently own 5 of them. You simply cannot beat them.

But, they are a heavy knife. If this bothers you, then look at the CLA or one of the new ones patterned after the HK Patrol. Also, consider the Reflex.

You could also consider Protechs. There are a couple of nice ones right now in the Exchange.

one of the best autos still made. was even better before the map when you could grab one in the mid 100s.

youll like it. its a good knife.

I have just started a thread but just to fill you folks in on my situation I have been credited 400$ from Benchmade to spend on one knife and I think after the above picture I'm going to pull the trigger on the AFO 2 black Tanto... thanks for the reply. Would you do the same?

I'd stay away from the tanto. That's just my preference. It takes one big usable blade and turns it into two small not-as-usable blades. Also a pain to sharpen.

But the AFOII is my most coveted auto, and it carries small for as huge as it is.

Most of my knives are Tanto, but they are primarily a secondary defensive tool. As far as usefulness they are essentially a wharncliffe with an upswept point, and I'm sure plenty of guys on here would agree that flat blades are very useful. I guess it's a matter of preference.

I've been scouting around for an auto (my first) and so far the AFO2 looks like it's the one to beat. Seems like a tried and true design and popular among auto owners. Good stuff. I think I will pull the trigger:)
