I just noticed #916 Bowie knife on Buck website. But only available as a custom. Is that something they just reintroduced? Too bad there isn't a regular version available.

Update: Well, from the comments on the Buck site, it appears it has been there last year. I guess I just didn't notice it. So is this worth getting? Seems a little pricey. Seems like my 120 is just as good, and cheaper.

I think they are good looking knives. I don’t think it would be that good of a user due to the skinny handle if you wanted more than a show piece.

That is an interesting variation. I think I may pass on it. I probably wouldn't use it but the comment on Buck's site about the tiny handle is discouraging.

Here's a thread I started on buck 900 bowies, there are other thread if you google. I bought a 903, the 916 was in consideration, but, eliminated because of the handle size. Most good custom knife makers could change the handle. The 900 series are more expensive than a 120 because of their limited production numbers.

it's been there for a long time many years...maybe longer.

it's not a good user. it's more built to be a wall hanger or rack sitter. the handle is way too small.....but Buck did make a limited edition once with a full sized grip. I have one in the collection. edit part..yep pic of it in Prestons link and thread.....good I don't have to dig it out, for another pic.

maybe DeSotoSky DeSotoSky Roger will post his pic of it in his XXL mitts. looks like a toy....even with the long blade.

Really beautiful knives in that 900 series Bowie link!

So long timers, what do you think the odds are of a 900 series with a decently sized handle being produced sometime in the future? It seems to me that a lot of this great older stuff is pretty much not done anymore. Is this correct?

ya never know, but with the retirement of Joe Houser, not sure who's still there to make these older patterns? hopefully someone.....
