940-1 Carbon worth it?

Hey guys, I have a 940-2, a bug out and a few other brands. I’ve been looking at the 940-1 carbon and been really tempted to getting one. However, I’m having a hard time with the price tag. None of my knives are safe queens. I’ll edc one for a month or so then move to another so this will be the same. Light use, nothing too heavy. People that owns or it or has, is it worth the price? Thanks

I've owned one, and if you like the 940 it's a really nice version. The dark stonewash is great, as is the S90V blade, and IME Benchmade does contoured CF extremely well. I sourced mine for around $200 on the secondary market, which feels more like where it should land pricewise.

I only sold it because for me it was too thick to slice as well as I wanted it to slice, and I found myself reaching for other knives in that weight class -- notably the Bugout -- over my 940.

Love mine, but I’m in the same boat as Dadpool, got it on the secondary market for much less than new.

I have both knives and swapped the blades. Looks much better on both IMHO.

Let's see. BM 940-1 has a cutting edge longer than Spyderco PM2 and Hinderer XM-18 3.5", and equal to that of large Sebenza 21. Its blade feels thinner behind the edge than that of the DLC PM2 that I have right in front of me. It has S90V super steel and beautiful CF scales. Whether it is worth the $270 price tag is completely subjective. I'll put it this way: if you think the 940-2 is worth $170, then IMO the 940-1 is worth $270.

I finally bit the bullet on this one after having a Gold Class 940 for years that is too pretty to really use.

I’m glad I did. It is really light and the blade edge has held up so far really well. I like it.

W wareagle75 hesitated for years before getting the 940-1, now you could not pry this thing from my fingers!

The cf weave they use is stunning to look at, and the design works wonders in the pocket where you don't notice it's even there. The s90v edge will last a good long time, and the profile makes a strong cutter.

I have been a benchmade 940-only carrier for years. Nothing fits the pocket like it. That being said, i love me some spyderco too….just never found one that disappeared in the pocket like a 940…..until I got the ikuchi. Now I have something to compare with.

The Carbon fiber handle is truly legit! It rubs the brass off of my keys, and then I can wipe the brass off with my hands. Very tough knife, with outstanding steel. It is much easier to sharpen than CPM 110, and holds an edge almost as well. I recently took mine to Panama on a kayak fishing trip, where it was wetted with saltwater for 6 days- no rusting at all, and it did some heavy cutting. A great steel in a beautiful package!

Loved the CF scales and stonewashed blade finish. The S90v not so much. It never got really sharp on my sharpener, not like the S30V or my 940 in 20CV. It really does have a toothy rough edge and I just couldn't get used to it.

Personally, I don't care for carbon fiber, but I flat love S90V-even when it was called 420V!

So, I have a 940-01!

I’ve carried mine for the last 5 years and love it!!!! It’s sooooooo light in the pocket, packs more punch and is more capable than most other knives. Looks incredible. I do agree with the others that the S90V is not my favorite steel to sharpen and sometimes I’ve wondered about the edge retention ability but like I said, it’s been in my pocket almost every single day for the last 5 years and has always performed. I sent mine off to a professional knife sharpening service and now all I have to do is strop it once a month or so.

I feel like it was worth it. However, I didn't already own a 940 at the time. If you like your 940 and want a more premium one, I'd go for it.

Like has been suggested, try and find a good condition used one if the price is too high for you. You could always buy some after market scales for your 940-2 if you don't care much about the blade steel.

Only you (The O.P.) can decide if it's worth the money...
But it sure is a great knife!
(Big fan of Carbon Fiber, and S90V)
