The name of this comes from the fact that it has a Scandinavian/Viking style blade with a more contemporary handle. It really doesn’t fit into a category other than ‘belt knife’. The blade is 1075 tool steel that was differentially heat treated to show a ‘temper line’ or hamon. The handle is made from old growth white oak that was salvaged by divers from Lake Superior. You can see the oxidation around the tiny worm burrows which creates a nice pattern. The bolster is ancient fossil mammoth bone. The blade is 4″ and the overall length is 9″.

I’m asking $350 with sheath.

Wow love the knife and materials! I’m from Minnesota and have family around the Lake Superior area and spent many fond summers as a child there and even proposed to my wife on the shores of Lake Superior in the Apostle islands. I wish I had the funds to pick this up! Any idea what type of wood it the handles are made of?

Thanks guys...

Well I live in the Apostle Islands area.. look me up next time you are in town. The wood is old growth white oak that logged in Canada and then delivered via raft to Superior. Somehow the occasional log sinks and gets preserved in the mud.
