Howdy Folks,
After waiting 4 months very impatiently for my first custom folder order. I would just like to share what I feel is the pinnacle. Possibly the Grandpappy of a Utility/Tactical folder. It is everything that the majority of the current popular market is not. Hand made in the USA by one of the Greatest.
This is my Bob Dozier Little workhorse. Ground, milled, sharpened, turned and shaped all by hand.
For those of you not familiar visit his site and read about him. Or search him on youtube. He has a recent shop tour this year where he does the folders in ST. Paul. Just do a youtube search of Dozier shop tour.
The other line is in Springdale headed by Dan Crotts I believe. I am fascinated by knives from the 80s-2005 Era and that is what this reminds me of.
- 8 Inches long.
-3 ½ inches of cutting edge/ 4 ½ inch handle.
-Tab lock and D2 steel
I requested the milling of arrows, blue anodizing , tip up carry and a grind that goes further back to the handle than his conventional grind with that amazing heat treat. All for 495$. I wont get started but there are too many knives made in China with bearings added for nearly the same price and that is just BS.
The inside of handle pieces and lock are marked #9. You can feel and see all the small imperfections that make it hand made. Milling marks here and there but overall finished for performance. That for me is the best part. Talk about character and soul.
Ive had a total of 4-5 phone calls directly with Bob and he was a pleasure to talk to and really cares about how his knife performs. His main goal is to have a knife that can cut and cut and cut. With excellent edge retention and no discomfort in your hand. And I have to say he did just that.
The pivot is also very cool. It has a separate threaded piece on the rear side of the female portion. Once you set the pivot like a normal knife you crank this threaded portion in to set against the male pivot screw. Keeps things locked in place. For a finicky guy like me. I really appreciate that.
It’s a rock solid knife with zero blade play and nice early engagement to allow room to wear.
Here are some photos. More to come with the sheath and some use.
Is there anybody here that feels the way I do?
