OK, ok..... I am curious as to how SOG knives are pronounced. Are they called a SOG as in a word ( like hog) or are they S.O.G. as in letters or abbrs. I call them S.O.G. like letters. Make sense?

I've always wondered that too, I call it SOG like hog. S.O.G sounds more likely though. I'm sure someone knows!

SOG stands for Studies and Observations Group, it was a special millitary group in Vietnam.

So it should SOG like hog but if you want to be technical its S.O.G.

Yep I prefer the "SOG" better, although many people around me use the "S.O.G" version. We don't spell out "S.E.A.L.S" do we? :foot:

I always though it was special operations group, but I'm probably wrong. I say S.O.G- Sog sounds like soggy.

In the Northwest where SOG's from, it rhymes with hog.

But whatever makes you happy will be just fine, I've heard everything.

It was! - But, there was political correctness even in the Viet Nam era: TPTB thought "Studies & Observation Group" would sound less "offensive" to inquiring minds, thus the name change. This nomenclature better concealed the true purpose of the "over the fence" Special Forces recon teams.

The complete name of the military group was MACV SOG and even though it is an acronym for Military Assistance Command, Vietnam - Studies and Observation Group, it was commonly referred to as Mack Vee Sog, like three words.

The knife company has no connection to this group of Heros and the lettrs of the name do not stand for anything. I see no reason to call the knife company S O G in 3 letters. I have always called it Sog like 1 word that rhymes with hog.

if they wanted to be called S.O.G. wouldn't they spell it that way instead of SOG?

Not a big deal anyways.

They used to make some pretty decent knives.

Now they make this stuff and lower quality versions of the old knives.

MacV SOG was a special operations group quite too often assosiated with CISO (Central Intellegence special operations)
Ben Baker Deputy chief of CISO, designed a knife for the SOG group, the second design was the more popular. Known as the Sog bowie. These knives were made in Japan and sold for a whopping $9.50.
SOG knife co. started by making very high quality reproductions of the SOG bowie. For a while this was the only knife they offered. The SOG knife co. as well as MacV SOG, have always been pronounced as one word (like Hog with an S).

If I was talking to someone and they said S. O. G. , my brain would be on 5 second delay, to correlate it with SOG.

SOG and FROG:thumbup:
